The museum displays sculptures, detached frescos and exhibits of ancient age which tell the story of Rome from its origin until imperial age.
On the ground floor, you can see material from the Iron Age and the Republican Age, on the first floor detached frescos, intarsia which stem from the "Domus Transitoria", statues of the imperial age of Augustus, Adrian and Antonio, a fragment of "Doriforo" by Policleto and the splendid architectural terracotta from Augustan buildings.

Gary Hill. Resounding Arches
Colosseo , Rome
from April 14 to July 31 2005
Gary Hill is one of the most important and influential contemporary artists working today. Since the 1970s. Hill has explored the increasingly complex relationship between language and image through electronic media, philosophical inquiry and the visceral presence of the body. The idea of an encounter with the inexhaustible play of history and the logos has ispired Gary Hill to develop and produce a multivalent work for the Colosseum and adjoining sites at the center of Rome. The work will grow over time through a series of installations within the Colosseum, beneath The Arena and at the Temple of Venus and Rome. The first projections will begin inside the Colosseum on April 14 and will be followed by further installations in May, with the final phase being an installation/performance work on June 11 in the Colosseum arena. Several of the projections will remain until the closing date of July 31. |
